Goals Just Got a Whole Lot Smarter

Do you wish you could automate your budgeting? Well, we have good news. Today, we’re rolling out two newly updated features to get you closer to full automation: Funding Schedules and Auto-spend.
Funding Schedules

Your Goals, enhanced:

Simple accounts already have easy online budgeting capability. We call it Goals. You can set aside money for certain things (like a vacation or rent) within your account and money will automatically move into each Goal daily. (Want more info? You can find it here).

Today, we’re making Goals even more customizable and automated.

First, you can now choose the frequency and dates when money automatically moves into specific Goals within your account. Like payday, for instance. We call this a Funding Schedule.

Second, your spending can now automatically deduct from the right Goal. Buy groceries? It’ll come from the Groceries Goal. No extra work required. This one we’re calling Auto-spend.

Both features are designed to make Goals work even better for you.

How to Create a Funding Schedule:

funding schedule

  1. On a computer, log in to your Simple account
  2. Navigate to the Goals Section
  3. Click the “Funding Schedules” button (this allows you to choose the recurring date you want your goals funded)
  4. Click “Add a funding schedule” and select the schedule that lines up with your payday.

Auto-spend Lets You Automatically Spend from a Goal:

Now that you’re automatically funding your Goals on payday, why not automate the process of spending from those Goals? Want your grocery purchases to pull from your Groceries Goal? That feature is here!

How to Set Up Auto-spend:

auto spend

  1. On your Goal, go to the Auto-spend section and turn it on.
  2. Select a category for Auto-spend.
  3. You’re all set!

After you set it up, purchases you make from that category will automatically spend from that Goal, not your Safe-to-Spend®. Just think of it as using separate envelopes of money to pay for different kinds of expenses. Except way less paper and time.

When you spend from a category, you’ll be cheerfully notified confirming that money was spent from the Goal, and also how much is left over. (Pro-tip: if your purchases are coming through with the wrong Category, you can update it one time, and it’ll stick.)

We love hearing from you.

Every step of the way we’ve been building and improving the Simple experience with your input. This is the start of a series of some big improvements coming to Goals. We can’t wait to share, so stay tuned! Let us know what you think by tweeting at us at @Simple.
