Introducing Brian Merritt, Operations Lead

A few weeks ago, we introduced our engineering team. At the end of that post, we mentioned that we were looking for a top-notch person to head up our operations efforts. I’m happy to announce that we found that person in Brian Merritt, who starts today as our Operations Lead.

Brian joins us from realtime search engine Topsy, where he played a critical role in scaling their operationally-demanding service. While at Topsy, Brian demonstrated the diversity of his skills by responding to feedback, assisting with PR, and contributing to partner integration and support efforts.

Previously, Brian managed infrastructure operations for Gap, Inc. There, he helped ensure that the popular clothing company’s portfolio of brands were able to withstand barrages of web traffic, particularly during busy holiday shopping seasons. His efforts yielded substantial gains. No stranger to jobs with serious money at stake, Brian also worked as Director of Technology at Sony Music, guiding venture investment groups and IT strategy within the media powerhouse.

Brian’s educational background is in cognitive science. While studying at Brown, he worked on a high-performance scientific computing infrastructure, as well as on a multi-disciplinary research project developing brain-like software and hardware computing environments. Definitely not your average CS curriculum!

We’re thrilled to have someone as experienced and enthusiastic as Brian on our team. We’re adopting a devops approach that will see Brian playing a critical role in all of our development efforts, tightly integrating the work our engineers do with the operational direction he sets.

Next week, our entire company gathers in Portland, OR to plan and strategize. We’re looking forward to seeing Brian and the rest of our talented staff. It’s one step closer to making BankSimple available to you.
