Spending From Goals

Spending From Goals

If you use Goals to set aside money for a specific purpose (whether it's routine expenses like gas and groceries, or a once-in-a-lifetime purchase), you may want to associate your transactions with a Goal.

There are two ways to do this—you can manually associate a transaction with a Goal, or you can set up Auto-spend, where you select specific transaction categories to be automatically spent from a Goal.

If you want to move money out of a Goal, but you don't want to associate it with a specific transaction, you can also transfer money from the Goal to your Safe-to-Spend.

Manually spending from a Goal

  1. Click on the transaction and select Choose a Goal. Using goals 1

  2. Then select the Goal you'd like to spend from. You can search to quickly locate a specific Goal. Using goals 2

Auto-spending from a Goal

You can also set up Goals so specific transaction categories are automatically spent from those Goals. For example, you can specify that groceries transactions always come out of your "Groceries" Goal.

Here's how to set it up:

  1. Sign in to your web account and navigate to the Goals tab.
  2. Click on the Goal.
  3. Find Auto-spend from this goal for: in the sidebar and then click Change.
  4. Select the type of transactions you'd like automatically deducted from that Goal. You can browse from the list or search.
  5. Click Save.

You can follow the same steps, at any time, to remove automatic Goal associations or select new categories.

One thing to note: each transaction category can only be associated with one Goal at a time. For example, if "Groceries" are associated with a "Groceries" Goal, they can't also be associated with a "Food" Goal.
